Eclipse Digital Solutions Ltd provided HMNB Devonport with an ergonomic control room design, including the selection of relocation space and technical equipment.
Once approved via the Ministry of Defence’s stringent design processes, we were successful in the tender award based on financial and technical criteria.
The project began with a complete fit-out of the new control room space. Following engagement with Heritage England due to the building’s age, a new false ceiling, carpets, full decoration, and installation of a dividing glass wall and doors to Silver Command were provided.
When the control room build was complete, technical furniture including operator desks, a meeting table, storage cabinets and a video wall were installed. Also provided were new data and telephony infrastructure, UPS backed small power electrical equipment, a fire alarm, access control and lighting designed for 24/7/365 operation.
To maintain the operation of the existing control room, new network video recorders capable of operating the existing analogue cameras and having future migration to IP technology were installed into a dedicated new server rack.
Existing camera images and control were duplicated into the new control room via the new infrastructure.
These systems operated concurrently for around two weeks while training was undertaken within the new control room as a ‘soak-test’ period.
