The groundbreaking drone detection and mitigation system installed by Eclipse Digital Solutions Ltd at Guernsey Prison has been featured on the BBC News website.
SkyFence is designed to protect low level airspace, which often remains unprotected and is vulnerable to attack. Drones are detected and repelled, and the system can also provide intelligence including the type of drone used along with flight time, date and duration.
A video showcasing the project at Les Nicolles Prison, which includes footage supplied by Eclipse of how SkyFence operates, is part of an extensive BBC News UK article headlined: Drones could bring more ‘risky’ items into prisons.
Among those interviewed are the governor of Guernsey Prison, the Chief Inspector of Prisons, the general secretary of the Prison Officers Association and a former prisoner who has witnessed drops by drone.

The feature also aired on BBC News.
SkyFence was now the subject of an article in the Channel Island’s Bailiwick Express in January 2025.
“The prison skyfence has been a successful deterrent for Guernsey Prison since it was installed in 2017,” Guernsey prison governor John De Carteret told the newspaper.
“It is still being used by the prison alongside other security precautions aimed at mitigating the risk of illicit items being conveyed into the establishment.”

The Sunday Telegraph also featured SkyFence in its January 19 edition and online. Please note this article is under a paywall.
