“Train people well enough so they can leave. Treat them well enough so they don’t want to.”
Richard Branson
A philosophy Eclipse adopts but why?
Why invest in developing staff and then they leave? Surely the bigger question is what happens if you don’t – and they stay.
We’ve taken a closer look at why a well-trained and motivated workforce helps us succeed in a competitive and price sensitive industry.
Daren Wood, head of sales and marketing, explains:
“Our frontline staff know our customers best as they interact with them daily. Equipping them with the tools and knowledge on how to improve our service delivery and customer satisfaction just makes sense.”
Empowering engineers
Technical director Dr Mark Almond added: “We know our engineers are the best ambassadors for the company. Empowering our engineers inspires creativity and innovation which in turn delivers security systems that meet our clients’ needs.”
As an example of our commitment to continuous training, we recently withdrew all engineers and frontline staff back to Eclipse HQ for a day’s Institution of Occupational Safety and Health training.
Over to Daren Wood: “Researchers at an American university discovered that businesses that spent 10% of their revenue on capital improvements saw a 3.9% productivity increase, but when the same 10% was invested in staff development, productivity increased by 8.5%, meaning that we need to spend less time on-site.”
Adapting quickly and effectively
Peter Hawkins, Eclipse operations manager, added: “In a high-tech industry which keeps evolving, we need to adapt quickly and effectively to ensure we can offer the right solution for our clients. Continuous training keeps employees’ knowledge fresh, their skills up to date and confidence levels high, allowing them to deal with any situation they may face.”
We know our staff are our greatest asset and because we care about them, they care about our clients.
